Rick, I believe some were extraordinary while others were far more ordinary. None were perfect. Most belived in their cause and did what they viewed to be the right thing regardless of how much it might cost them.

Dave, personally I am a big fan of history in general. And for some reason both our Revolutionary War period and Civil War period have a special interest for me. There are so many incredibly fascinating people on all sides of both conflicts who said and wrote down some amazing ideas that I sometimes just get caught up in it all.

I don't know that it is so much national pride as it is a love affair with lofty ideas and principles. At least on my account anyway.

How Americans know, respect, and honour their history is very admirable. It's something that Canadian christians are beginning to unearther and discover as well. I'll be in Ottawa in a couple of weeks for something called "The Cry" (there's the link below) with thousands of young adults speaking life over Canada. We (Canadians) have neglected this for too long

I'm going to join my American brothers on this big day and celebrate your great country! God Bless America!

hi, chris - thanks for sharing all the links and stuff. really interesting to see how these men and women lived and came to their destinies. i'm of the mind that they were ordinary folks doing great and exceptional things. they had major issues among themselves and with decisions made, and they did it anyway. inspirational, even in their mistakes. good stuff.
